Apply Feng Shui at Home

Feng Shui is an ancient art that’s designed to improve energy flow through your home and it’s something that’s based on the Taoist principles that deal with the 5 elements of wind, water, earth, metal and fire. The actual term itself is made up of the Chinese words ‘Feng’ meaning wind and ‘Shui’ meaning water and it’s these elements that are associated with both fortune and good health. In this blog, we’ll be touching on the ways that you can apply Feng Shui at home.

Essentially, you can improve the flow of these energies through your home using correct furniture placement and when you do this, you attract powerful ‘chi’. So, let’s take a look at the things to do to ensure this is happening in your home.

Method #1 – Being Tidy & Organised

First and perhaps most importantly, when trying to apply Feng Shui at home, you should ensure your living space is tidy and organized. If it’s not, it is said to encourage depression, unhappiness and stress. This page one stuff, so before you do anything else, make sure you get your home clean and uncluttered.

It’s a big job for some, so if you’re unsure where to begin, start by cleaning out that wardrobe or drawer you’ve been meaning to sort out and go from there. You need to be pretty harsh too, as anything that gets in the way of the healthy, positive energy flow needs to go!

Method #2 – Keep Work & Rest Areas Separate

Another important principle to follow in your attempts to apply Feng Shui at home is to be mindful of how space is used. Whilst it can be quite tempting to work where it’s most comfortable, you should do everything you can to keep working and rest areas separately.

The Feng Shui reasoning behind this is that your bedroom or living room cannot be optimally calm if it’s associated with work, so if you can, find a specific area away to do your daily work and the tranquillity of your rest areas will be preserved.

Method #3 – Don’t Put Your Bed by the Window

Another rule to follow when you apply Feng Shui at home is to ensure that your bed is not placed by the window. This is because when you’re asleep, your body and mind are said to need extra support, which cannot be provided by walls that aren’t solid. Feng Shui rules state that your bed should be located next to solid walls that feature neither windows or doors.

It’s in the bedroom that it’s most important focus on furniture placement, as this is the room in which you recharge.

Method #4 – Using the Correct Colors

When you apply Feng Shui at home, you have to consider every element in each room – including the colour scheme. It’s well known that colours can be used to reduce stress and enhance your mood, so using the right one in each room is really important if you want to enhance calm.

Red, for example, is lively and bold, whereas green will create a sense of calmness and peace. Light also plays an important role in energy flow in the home, so colours that help to reflect light are often useful. Have the right colours in the right areas in your home and you’ll be able more easily unwind after a busy day at the office.

Method #5 – Energise Your Entrance!

Last our list is the Feng Shui principle of energizing your home’s front door. Your home’s entrance is very important in channelling positive energy through your home, so the first thing you must do is make sure this area is not blocked by dead plants and old junk mail.

Everything you can do to keep this part of your home free of clutter will help your cause and your entrance door should always open inwards – as they usually do.
